What Learners Can Expect from Careers Education

At Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School, every pupil receives a high-quality, impartial careers programme designed to help them explore their strengths, interests and future pathways. Learners can expect:

  • Guidance on post-16 and post-18 options including sixth form, college, apprenticeships, employment and university routes.
  • Access to meaningful encounters with employers, apprenticeship providers, colleges and universities.
  • Opportunities to develop key life and employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, independence, and problem-solving.
  • Support through careers interviews, action plans and pathway profiles tailored to their needs.
  • Real experience of the workplace through work experience placements or workplace visits.
  • Careers learning embedded across the curriculum, PSHE and SAINT lessons.

Our aim is to help every young person aspire, plan confidently and make informed decisions about their future.

How Parents and Carers Can Support Their Child

Parents and carers play a vital role in shaping a young person’s aspirations. You can support your child by:

  • Talking regularly about their interests, strengths and future goals.
  • Encouraging them to explore different career sectors and education routes.
  • Attending parents’ evenings, pathway meetings and careers events at school.
  • Using resources we recommend, such as Unifrog and the National Careers Service.
  • Helping them prepare for key milestones such as work experience, application forms and interviews.
  • Sharing your own experiences of work, training or education to spark discussions.

Your encouragement and involvement make a big difference to your child’s confidence and motivation.
